On texture and materiality.

The overall composition balances natural textures, modern design, and artistic expression. Clouds by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Kvadrat, mounted high on the wall, provide a soft contrast to the neutral backdrop, creating a subtle statement while adding an additional layer of texture and playful sophistication.
The marble vanity, situated behind this wall, features striking veining in earthy tones, contributing to a cohesive and gallery-like aesthetic.

On curation and familiarity.

When designing this space, I sought to create a carefully curated blend of traditional influences and contemporary minimalism. An early 20th century Byobu screen at its heart - a piece I fell in love with for its intricate artistry, paired with vintage ceramics from my travels, each contributing a story. The space also features the Wassily chair, a mid-century modern icon. The silver travertine floors, selected for their raw features, provide a natural, grounding element to the room.
Resulting in a space that feels both curated and familiar, timeless yet personal.

On character and narrative.

The master bathroom, positioned beyond a partial wall, seamlessly extends from the bedroom. A full-height mirror creates a visual connection, reflecting the striking, and timeless marble vanity into the main room, which features a 19th century Coromandel screen as it’s centerpiece, adding a rich sense of art and history to the space, while balancing modernity with timeless charm.

The journey brought me to new heights, where I got to visit the birthplace of a natural material that has become the foundation of my design dreams. Marble. Italian marble. The unveiling of all the hard work will soon come to light and I couldn’t be more proud.
